Planed matings.
Plans are only plans!
Ever since we had our very first Norwegian Forest Cat, we hoped that one day we would like to have kittens of our own, however work our work commitments at that time meant that there was no way we were going to be able to dedicate enough time. (The responsibilities and time pressures involved in kitten parenthood are not to be trifled at, any breeder that tells you otherwise isn't doing the job properly).
Not having the time to breed didn't stop us researching and learning what we could about breeding, genetics, health and other subjects, we enrolled the help of a very knowable breeder who has become our mentor and guide, we also have the advice from several of the top judges and breeders in the UK all helping and guiding us during or first steps. We registered our Prefix (breeders name) Norspirit and even applied to the Governing Council to enrol on their Breeder Scheme. (This involves signing up to an enhanced Code of Ethics, having the written support of your veterinary practice as well as allowing the GCCF to monitor by the way of feedback). I'm happy to say we were accepted in 2014 and are on of a few NFC breeders on this scheme.
We don't claim to be experts in any aspect of breeding but we certainly have expanded our knowledge base since we started, to us there is only one way to do a job and that is to the best of our ability and touch wood (to date) it is certainly paying off in spades. All the kittens that are leaving home, have now left to start their new lives. We were absolutely thrilled to bits with the homes and the new 'human slaves' that they have gone to live with.
In January 2014 supermum Freya gave birth to two kittens and our first litter was off the ground, in August this was followed by our second litter from our beautiful Frikka. We have plans too for 2015 and onwards, so hopefully it wont be too long before we are blessed with the patter of little paws again.
Norwegian Forest Cats make excellent family additions to any household being extremely personable. Enquiries for kittens are welcomed from people who can offer loving forever homes with a safe secure environment for them to live in. Our kittens don't leave home before the age of 13 weeks, are fully vaccinated and insured
