Cropton Forest Cats

In 1998 when we started Peak NDT we realised that taking time out for a holiday
was probably going to be nigh-on-impossible for some time. With that in mind we decided to buy a caravan to site on a semi-permanent
basis in the hopes that by getting away and having a mini-break at the weekend we could keep our sanity. The question was
where. We had stayed at Spiers House Campsite (then run by the Forestry Commission) in the depths of Cropton Forest, between
the town of Pickering and the village of Rosedale Abbey, several times. When the opportunity of a seasonal pitch came up we
jumped at the chance. The site is ideal for us in many ways but above all the surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful
as well as being peaceful and quiet, making it an ideal place to chill out at the end of a busy week.

Several
years and caravans later we are still making our weekly pilgrimage (well nearly) to Spiers, although now, since Ferdie
and Sapphie made their first trip with us in 2006, we are joined by our cats most weekends to the point
where we are no longer quite sure who enjoys themselves more. There's always plenty to do whether it's a stroll round the
campsite, socialising with other 'seasonals' and campers (Ferdie's even been known to chat with the occasional dog), sitting
outside, watching and chattering at the various wildlife or going on an expedition into the forest. One thing is for sure, whatever they get up to they always spend a good
20 hours asleep when they get home!
